Matomo (formerly Piwik) is an open source and free web analytics software created by a team of international developers. The system runs on PHP / MySQL based web servers and tracks the traffic of one or more websites on the server, about which it prepares analyzes and displays them in various queries and groupings. As of June 2018, Matomo is used by more than 1 websites, or 455% of all websites with known traffic analysis tools, and has been translated into 000 languages. Software updates are scheduled on a regular basis.

history

Piwik was released at the end of 2007 instead of phpMyVisites, with full API support, cleaner user interface, modern graphs, better architecture and better performance.

2008. On November 21, SourceForge.net announced that Piwik is available as an application hosted by developers.

Piwik became the SourceForge 2009. project of July.

In August of 2009, Piwik was ranked among the best open source businesses by its InfoWorld 2009 Bossie (Best of Open Source Enterprise Software).

In December of 2012, Piwik started community funding to implement the new services requested.

In September 2013, Matthieu Aubry and Maciej Zawadziński, CEO of Clearcode, founded Piwik PRO, which provided support and services to open source Piwik. Clearcode acquired Matthieu Aubry in June 2016 to become the sole owner of Piwik PRO.

In January 2018, the Piwik became Matomo.
