For ext3 and ext4 logging file systems, if the file system was shut down incorrectly but without error, the file system can usually be marked as error-free after re-running the transactions in the log. Therefore, for file systems that use logging, e2fsck usually reruns the log and exits, unless the file system super block indicates that further verification is required.
